Sodding refers to laying down rolls of grass onto soil for it to take root. Sod is the grass that is cut from a well-established field (sod farms) of grass and placed at other locations. “Sod” refers to the actual rolls of grass. THE INSTALLATION PROCESS OF NEW SOD
The steps to sodding a lawn are clear and straight-forward. In every sodding project, we do the following:

Evaluating the Landscaping
Before the sodding process begins, we arrive at your property to conduct a thorough evaluation of the landscaping. This includes checking the existing lawn/soil and taking all the necessary measurements.

Removing the Old Sod/Grass
Remove and dispose of any existing grass/lawn or weeds by scraping off the top layer of the old lawn/weeds or cutting it with a commercial grade sod cutter. The sod cutter is a machine with a moving blade that is inserted into the turf and capable of peeling off up to 2.5 inches of old sod. For smaller lawn repairs, such as brown patches or smaller backyards, sometimes we remove the old lawn/weeds by hand, using a special type of pickaxe. All excavated material is properly disposed of at a local waste facility and disposal of waste is included at no additional charge—an exceptional value.

Grading
We then proceed to grade and level the existing ground to smooth and shape it, identifying any low or high problem areas if present.

Adding a layer of triple mix and leveling
We then install about 2 inches of premium topdressing (triple-mix soil) mix to give your new lawn the nutrients it needs to grow and thrive, and then level and grade again the area to ensure it is not bumpy or uneven.

Laying down new sod
The most satisfying step involves installing high-quality, fresh-cut sod from our local Toronto supplier. The sod is laid in a staggered fashion to ensure strong joints and is perfectly leveled for a clean, final appearance. New sod is precisely cut to fit around edges, trees, flower beds, and obstacles, ensuring a perfect and flush finish.

Water and maintenance information
Properly watering the new sod is the most essential part for a healthy lawn. For optimal health of your lawn, we supply you with a water and maintenance schedule tailored to Toronto's climate. A proper maintenance schedule will protect your investment and keep your lawn happy and healthy.

Final clean-up
We leave your property nice and clean, working hard to make sure our sod installation process is hassle-free for you. As a result, we properly dispose of all the materials post-installation and give your property a final clean-up of all paved areas and lawns including driveways, walkways and sidewalks. The disposal of the post-installation yard waste is always included in the sodding cost.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Sodding services are offered from late April/early May to mid-November. The best time to install sod in Toronto is early fall and the second best time is Spring.

Every project starts with a thorough site assessment and a written, detailed quote. Once the quote is approved, we will arrive on the scheduled day at your property in a pick-up truck with a trailer, fully equipped with all the required tools.
